The Alpha Step Awards have been designed to provide small stepping stones for developing confidence if your child cannot swim without aids. The Alpha Step Awards reward the development of the early stages of buoyancy, coordination, spatial awareness, breathing, and entering and leaving the pool.
The basic water skills and confidence gained through the Alpha Step Awards enable a smooth transition for your child to Stage 1 of the Swim England Learn to Swim Framework.
For children 4 years and over who are new to swimming lessons and are not yet water confident e.g. unable to submerge their face confidently, float on their front and back unaided.
For children who are water confident e.g. able to submerge their face confidently, float on their front and back unaided and paddle/kick a short distance unaided.
For children who have achieved all the outcomes of Stage 2. To be achieved before entering stage 3.
